The art of fine engineering gchat statuses
me: looks like i'm going to have to take a leaf out of your book with gchat statuses this semester
EW: haha i've noticed
EW: your statuses have been getting more and more grim, concerning homework
EW: i found that posting my homework status was a way of connecting to the wider world while i why suffered through interminable problem sets
me: there's a sense of humor in all of this, though
me: "look, i'm dying yet i must update my gchat status about it!"
EW: haha
EW: the status also sort of serves as motivation to finish
EW: it's like, the world is cheering you on
EW: "come on, only a few more problems!"
EW: "you can do it!"
EW: "you've come so far!"
me: you have to be careful, though
me: it can come off as self-serving (the bad kind) if you don't word it properly
EW: yeah, i agree
EW: ah, the art of homework gchat statuses
EW: haha, i swear, they kept me sane last year
